Charlotte, N.C. - Behind a three-hitter shutout from freshman
Katy Hackett and a single from sophomore outfielder Serena Smith for the lone RBI of the contest, the second-seeded Charlotte 49ers rallied past
sixth-seed Saint Louis in the first round of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Softball
Tournament. Notching seven strikeouts in six innings in the circle to
bump her season total to 172, Hackett moved into first place
all-time in the 49er single season record books.

SOFTBALL SHOWCASE

The Georgia Dugout Softball Club will sponsor a Georgia Underclassman Showcase in the Summer of 2008. The underclassman showcase is for players that will enter the 9th-12th grades for the 2008-2009 school year. The Georgia Dugout Baseball Club has sponsored this event for baseball for several years and has over 84 schools and organizations attend.
 
It is the Softball Club's intention to sponsor 6 softball showcases around the state of Georgia for upcoming underclassman to get the opportunity to be one of the Top 80 girls invited back to attend the final event July 23rd at Kennesaw State University. These Top 80 girls will be showcased through a series of scrimmage games.
 
Girls participate on an individual basis and will be put on teams when that time comes.

RELAY FOR LIFE
 
This year, the Hawks softball team is going to participate in the Relay For Life fundraising drive at Mill Creek. 
We are going to raise money in honor of two very special people: David Duncan & Coach Webb's mom. 
These two individuals are both brave and inspirational. The coaches & players want to do what we can
to help with the search for a cure for cancer.  If you would like to donate, please bring whatever amount you are comfortable with to Coach Murdock's office.

COACH MURDOCK SPEAKS AT ITALIAN NATIONAL
CONFERENCE IN CASERTA, ITALY
 
Coach Murdock was invited to speak at the Italian National Conference (as part of the International Softball Federation) over the weekend of January 25-27.  She addressed coaches and players of all ages, including travel teams, national teams, and so on.  Coach Murdock gave 5 presentations on topics including "slapping", "reading the defense", "using the short game to manufacture runs", "outfield skills & practice organization", and "training special throws".  Also speaking at the conference were MLB coaches, players, and managers, Italian national coaches, and former Olympians.  Mill Creek softball was the topic of many conversations while there!  Enjoy the pics!
